The Eco League was officially founded in 2003. Many of the schools were original members of the North American Alliance for Green Education (NAAGE) and recognized the benefits of forming a consortium of liberal arts colleges that specialize in education aimed at building a sustainable society. A grant from the Educational Foundation of America funded an initiating conference and subsequent faculty visits to build collaborative projects.
Today, formal agreements among Eco League colleges allow for cooperative exchanges of faculty and students, as well as collaborative program research and experiential opportunities.
Eco League colleges offer semester exchange programs that allow students of one school to study at another, giving them access to ecosystems throughout the nation via their studies at:
•Alaska Pacific University (Alaska) •College of the Atlantic (Maine) •Green Mountain College (Vermont) •Northland College (Wisconsin) •Prescott College (Arizona)
These small liberal arts institutions all share similar missions and value systems based on environmental responsibility, social change, and educating students to build a sustainable future.
And all of the Eco League colleges have strong environmental learning programs that stress experiential education, so students are prepared to take on real-world challenges when they graduate.
